With only about 3% of child abuse cases being reported in India, it is very crucial that awareness about the child protection act and its provision is spread. A seminar addressing the same concern was conducted by Department of Social Welfare Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration. The morning session was conducted for Class IV employees and the afternoon session was conducted for all the members of the staff. Ms. Preeti and Ms. Tabsum conducted the session and acquainted the participants with the provisions of POCSO Act, 2012 (Protection of Child Against Sexual Offences). After talking about the provisions of this Act in detail, a short movie was screened to make everyone aware about the collective responsibility of fighting against this evil. Many misconceptions regarding this Act and the situations which come under the purview of this Act were also discussed. Thereafter, a street play was screened which brought home the point that this evil cuts across all barriers of gender and financial status and is spreading like an epidemic.
