Description:

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur and patriotic fervour at Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh. The day’s events began with the arrival of the esteemed Chief Guest, Col. Ashish Tiwari, Commanding Officer, Regiment of Artillery, Chandimandir Military Station, who was warmly welcomed by the Principal and Reverend Sisters.

The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, accompanied by the National Anthem, filling the campus with pride and unity. This was followed by a spectacular March Past, led by Commander Aishmeet Kaur along with the Head Girl, Vice Head Girl, and Supporting Head Girl. The contingents of NCC (First & Second Year), Scouts and Guides, and NSS (First & Second Year) marched with discipline and confidence, showcasing the values of service, courage, and unity.

The programme then moved to the auditorium, beginning with the Lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp and a Green Welcome for the Chief Guest. A graceful Prayer Dance by the Primary Wing set a serene tone, followed by a speech on Progressive India, an impactful enactment on Shaheed Bhagat Singh, and a heartfelt patriotic poem by a Primary Wing student.

The School Choir filled the hall with soulful melodies of freedom, while the Primary Wing dancers presented “Azadi ke Rang, Veeron ke Sang,” a vibrant tribute to India’s freedom struggle. A melodious solo performance of Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai further stirred patriotic emotions.

In his address, Col. Tiwari inspired students with words of courage, discipline, and service, also presenting a memento to the school and a cheque of ?11,000 to the Sahodaya Social Service Club. Reverend Sister Venita, in turn, honoured the Chief Guest with a memento.

The cultural segment celebrated India’s diversity with folk dances—Garba from Gujarat, Nati from Himachal Pradesh, Haryanvi dance, and an energetic Bhangra that brought the celebrations to a spirited close. A stirring patriotic poem “Bharat ke Veer Sapoot” by the Senior Wing paid tribute to the nation’s heroes.

The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks and the singing of the National Anthem, leaving every Heartian inspired to carry forward the spirit of unity, peace, and progress. The 79th Independence Day celebrations at Sacred Heart were a true reflection of India’s heritage—rich in culture, steeped in sacrifice, and radiant with hope for the future.
