In most countries. Labour Day is synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers' Day, which happens on May 1, originally chosen to commemorate the 1886 general strike which culminated in the Hay market affair. Observing Interna tional Labour Day can help students to develop empathy and social awareness by teaching them about the challenges that they face in serv ing the society.
